The Ghosts of Senate House is one part of a creative research project led by Sarah Sparkes. It serves as an archive for uncanny, apocryphal stories emanating from Senate House. These stories formed part of "a Magical library for the 21st Century" an archive of writings, recordings, artwork, artefacts, and other contributions, which was first shown at the University of London as part of The Bloomsbury Festival October 2011.

About

“The Ghosts of Senate House” is a collaborative, investigative project for “The Magical Library”, an artwork by Sarah Sparkes made in response to Harry Price’s bequest at the University of London

We are collecting tales of the ghostly, the uncanny and the paranormal emanating from Senate House and the surrounding area.

Have you seen, heard, sensed, read about or been told of anything uncanny, strange, occult, ghostly or just down-right weird that is connected to this location? If so, then we would love to hear from you!

We will acknowledge all contributors, and in some instances would be interested in arranging an interview with you to record your story. You may remain anonymous if you prefer.

We are - Sarah Sparkes, artist, curator and research fellow at the Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies(a member institute of the School of Advanced Study), and Chris Josiffe, independent researcher.

We are collecting information for a publication and an exhibition at Senate House opening during the Bloomsbury Festival in October this year.  Arts collective ‘Output Arts’ composed sound works in response to the stories, the Price Collection and Senate House.  Scott Wood brought his expert knowledge of London ghosts to the investigation in a tour of the 'haunted' sights. Chris Roberts compiled a special edition of 'one eye grey' and Peter Suchin wrote a new text reflecting on his own extraordinary library.

“The Ghosts of Senate House” is part of an art work by Sarah Sparkes taking its inspiration from the Harry Price Library of Magical Literature.  The artist created her own magical library inspired by Harry Price’s bequest.  This library is the home of a growing collection of newly created writings, artworks, performance, music and more.
